BEST OF TANZANIA WILDEBEEST MIGRATION CALVING SEASON

11 DAYS 10 NIGHTS

PACKAGE TYPE: MID-RANGE

PRICE: FROM $4,239.00 pp

BEST TIME: DECEMBER TO MARCH

Overview

This 11-day safari is to see the great migration of wildebeest that commonly takes place in December to March of every year, and the reason why this major move is so important is that the wildebeest will try to give birth to calves in better conditions, which means that they will avoid any predator that could cause a lot of complications in the process. Sadly, predators are pretty intelligent, and they always head to the south of Serengeti (the places where everything will happen) to take advantage of the vulnerable newborns, making it a very risky natural situation for the heads of the family since they will protect their calves with everything they can.

After breakfast, we do a full-day game drive with lunch at the lodge. We will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes, which usually attract several lions and some formidably large cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink
